Dental Care for Your Dog

Dental hygiene is as important for your dog as it is for you. Feeding your dog a wet dog food will increase dental problems compared to dry, as dry food will help to remove plaque as your dog bites down on it. Also using food and treats that have high quality ingredients will help to keep your dog’s breath smelling sweeter as their bodies will be utilising the protein.

Establishing a daily routine of cleaning their teeth is ideal; it will reduce plaque and tartar build up and keep your dog’s breath fresher. There are many different types of products you can use; we stock Beaphar’s toothbrush and toothpaste combo, always use a dog toothpaste as human paste will upset their stomachs due to its foaming ingredient, Beaphar’s toothpaste is a tasty liver flavour. If your dog won’t allow you to use a toothbrush use Beaphars Tooth Gel, this works by the dog licking the liver flavoured gel and spreading it over their teeth, use the nozzle to apply the gel on your dog’s teeth and gums. It also contains natural anti-bacterial ingredients which help to keep your dog’s gums in good health. We also stock Tropicleans Tooth Gel, which also kills germs that cause bad breath and prevents plaque build up with only 2 drops on each side of your dog’s mouth. They should start licking the product, mixing the gel with their saliva which will coat their teeth. Tropiclean Fresh Breath Water Additive just add 1 teaspoon per 454l of water to freshen your dogs breath for up to 12 hours. Also available is Beaphar’s Dental Powder and Plaque Off, these are a natural seaweed additive that you add to their food, this works when the seaweed is ingested and is absorbed and enters the saliva and stops the plaque from sticking to your dog’s teeth.

Give your dog treats and toys that help to clean their teeth, antlers are great for good chewers as they tend to last longer, rope toys are fantastic as they get in-between their teeth.
